I stared blankly at my dark haired boss, my mind unable to process anything. Beside me, my parents were the same. My mother had turned ghostly pale and her hand was placed over her mouth in shock. My father however, looked just about ready to wrestle a bear.

“U-um. How about we talk this over like the peaceful civilians that we are,” I shot my dad a death glare. “Up in the apartment?”

“That…sounds like a good plan, doesn’t it darling?” My mom agreed and looked to my dad for approval. He grunted out a ‘yes’ but continued to eye Rivaille from head to toe. Speaking of Rivaille, that little jerk had been patiently standing with his arms crossed, eyes looking as blank as ever.

“Well then why don’t you two wait upstairs while I take, um, Rivaille down to the parking lot.” Mother nodded and gently pushed her husband, my grumpy father, towards the entrance to our apartment complex.

I entered the car through the passenger’s side just as Rivaille slid into the driver’s seat. The first thing I did was begin questioning him.

“Dude, what in the flippin hell was that all about!?” I demanded. He shrugged. “I want an answer, dammit!”

“Would you rather your parents know that I’m your boss driving you home in the middle of the night instead?” I sat there quiet for a second and weighed the pros and cons. It was true that this situation suggests…a lot more than what it really is.

“I suppose not…but still! You could’ve said that you were just a friend or something..” I muttered, trailing off.

“Do you not want me to be your boyfriend?” He asked in all seriousness.

“Huh? Come again?” Rivaille parked the car on an empty parking space.

“I said do you not want me to be your boyfriend?” He repeated and I was slightly taken aback but the suddenness of the question.

“Well I…I don’t know. Why are you asking me this all of a sudden anyways?” I mumbled and turned away as my face heated up. Rivaille did not seem like he approved of my answer as he sighed and ran a hand through his hair.

“I swear, you’re such a dumbass sometimes.”

“Well excuse me, mister!” Unaware of the close proximity between the two of us, I had turned to face him causing our foreheads to collide.

“Ouch!” I cried and clutched my head in pain.

“Tch.” He removed my hands from my forehead and replaced them with his own as he applied slight pressure on the sore spot, rubbing tiny circles on it.

“Such a dumbass.” He repeated, kissing the spot where it hurt.

“It’s all your fault anyways.”

“Hm.” One of his hands moved back to release my hair from its ponytail while the other held my chin up. He gently kissed along my exposed neck until his lips reached mine. Rivaille placed one chaste kiss on my lips. Then another. On the third time that he leaned closer, he forced my mouth open and his tongue slipped in. Unable retain my stubborn self any longer, I grabbed on to his shirt collar and pulled him even closer till I could practically hear his heart beating right next to mine.

He pulled away to breathe for one second before he leaned back in to capture my lips once more with more force than the last. As much as I needed air, I did not want to pull away. The feeling of his lips on mine was overwhelming yet I feel like I can never get enough of it. His taste was intoxicating.

Rivaille pulled away and I couldn't help but let out a whine of complaint. He showed a tiny smirk.

“Oi breathe, you dumbass, breathe.” I did as he instructed and inhaled the lovely oxygen that I had needed. Rivaille pressed another soft kiss to my lips before he flicked my forehead right where it hurt.

“Let’s go, idiot. Your parents are waiting.”

“I know, I know. Sheesh.” I said and followed him out the car.

The apartment building was roughly three minutes away from the parking lot. I must say, it was quite awkward especially after that mini make out session with my own boss, not to mention the chilling night air that got me practically freezing to death. I shivered despite the large coat that I was wearing.

“Cold?” Rivaille asked.

“A bit…” He sighed and hung his arm around my shoulder to bring me closer to him.

“Better?”

“Mhm.” I told him and leaned closer to his shoulder. He was warm, very warm, like a portable heater that smelled really good.

“How’re you so warm?”

“I am not. You’re just being an idiot. It’s not even cold.” He answered with an uninterested gaze ahead.

“Oh right. I forgot that you were cold-blooded.” I commented. He stopped in his tracks and flicked me again, not even bothering to wait for me as he walked ahead.

“Hey, wait for me! Come back my short little space heater!” He threw another glare at me and left me by myself to walk back to the apartment in the cold.
---
At least he bothered to wait for me before he went up the elevator. I pressed the button to my floor and we stood back as the elevator ascended.

“So.”

“So?”

“About my previous question.” He reminded me.

“Yeah, what about it?”

“What’s your answer?”

“I’m not sure…give me sometime to think, will ya?” He nodded and grazed his thumb over my forehead.

“Does it hurt?” He mumbled with a slight frown. I nodded. He bended over and just when I thought he was about to kiss me again, he does something totally different.

“Ha. You deserved it.” Sometimes, I just really want to kick this guy regardless of whether he’s my boss or not.

The elevator dinged and opened on my floor. I stopped before I unlocked the door.

“Well I never thought I would ever say this but I suppose we should at least act like a normal couple.” I suggested and Rivaille nodded in agreement. I held out my hand to him.
“I guess we should like...hold hands or something, right?” He looked at my hand as if it held all the germs in the world.

“What? I washed it! It’s clean I swear!” He still looked at it with doubt written all over his eyes.

“Hey, don’t forget it’s you who got us into this situation! So stop acting like a nervous sixth grader who’s never held a girl’s hand before! Just…just think of it as a prolonged hand shake. I trust that you do handshakes often, yeah?”

“I hate them.”

“Well you can’t have everything good in the world. Now hold my hand or so help me, I will drag you in by the ear.”

“Do you even care about the fact that I can fire you any second now?” He threatened. Sheesh, he sure was determined not to hold my hand.

“I think I have more important issues to worry about at the moment. Just hold the damn hand!” Finally, he gave in and took hold of my hand.

“It’s cold.”

“Thank you Captain Obvious. As if I didn’t know that.” His hand held mine tighter as if it was trying to fend off the cold. I knocked on the door, too lazy to grab my keys. My father opened the door with a large knife in hand. I backed away immediately.

“Woah Dad! Relax! Now we can slowly talk this out, put the weapon down!”

“What’re you rambling about? I was just cutting up some melon for our guest.” He informed me with an extra emphasis on the word, guest.

“Melon? Dad, it’s the middle of October! Any melon you buy will just end up tasting like a sour shoe anyways.” Next to me, Rivaille shuddered ever so slightly at the mention of a sour shoe. Who knows what that would taste like…

“Whatever, food’s food. Hurry up and come in.” I walked in with Rivaille in tow. My father glared at our linked hands like a wolf staring down its prey. I picked up my pace.

By the time I made it into the living room, my mom had already prepared four cups of coffee and a tin of cookies.

“Mom, it’s too late for coffee at this hour.”

“Nonsense! This is going to take a while.” My father joined us in the room as well and I took a deep breath.

“Well then. Mom, Dad, meet Rivaille, my…boyfriend.” It was a bit difficult to force out the word boyfriend especially when I was describing my own boss! “Rivaille, this is my mom and dad.” Rivaille nodded and let go of my hand to shake my parent’s. At least my dad seems to approve of Rivaille’s firm handshake, though he is obviously not fully convinced yet.

The four of us sat down and nobody said anything for the longest time. I decided that if anyone were to get this conversation going, it would have to be me.

“So, um-“

“Excuse me, what kind of air freshener do you use?” My mom stared at him as if Rivaille had sprouted a second head and started breathing fire.

“Um-oh! I use the (insert brand of air freshener here).” Rivaille nodded in approval.

“Have you ever tried (Air freshener brand)?” Rivaille asked in return. And that was how my so-called “boyfriend” became best buddies with my mother. Through discussing cleaning products. Joy.

My father on the other hand looked like he was just about ready to flip the coffee table. Or Rivaille. Maybe both.

“Mom, why don’t we go into the kitchen and bring out that delicious melon that Dad was just chopping up?” My mother paused for a bit and shooed me away.

“Not now baby, Rivaille here was just telling me about this magnificent laundry detergent that smells like absolute heaven!”

“MooOOOooM!” Wink, wink. She seemed to get the idea.

“Oh right! The melon!” She said in a high falsetto. “Let’s go grab that lovely piece of fruit!” As we both got up from our seats, I gave Rivaille a tiny kick. He gave me a tiny nod.

“So sir, are you into cars?” I followed my mother into the kitchen after that.

“He’s a very nice guy.” She commented while placing the slices of melon on a large plate.

“Hm. I suppose.”

“I’m really glad that you found such a great guy, (Name). Especially after your last-“

“Mom, let’s not go there. That was three years ago and it was extremely stupid, okay?” She looked at me for a second and nodded in understanding. I’d rather not talk about my past relationships…

“Alright. Let’s take these outside.”
---
In the mere three minutes that we were in there, Rivaille and my dad were already engaged in a passionate discussion about the engine of some new car. Rivaille sure knows about a lot of stuff. The rest of our night was spent drinking coffee, eating nasty melon, talking about this and that, and me finally falling asleep on Rivaille’s shoulder due to fatigue.

It was two in the morning by the time Rivaille carried the half asleep me off to bed.
“Your room’s clean.” He murmured in approval.

“Mm…yeah, I suppose.”

“Tired?” I slowly nod. He gently laid me on my bed and carefully peeled my socks off. I could pretty much see the image of him wrinkling his nose in disgust.

He tucked me in and stopped, leaning over my sleeping figure as if he was contemplating something important. In the end, he kissed my nose and whispered a soft “Good Night”.
A big thank you to everyone who's faved or read this series as well as everyone who's followed me! I can't thank you guys enough! It makes me really happy and I do read through every single comment even though I might not always reply to them~ :iconmoeblushplz:

So this chapter was a bit more slow paced but I did come up with a somewhat plot twist to be revealed later :3

Alright so here's the thing: I said that I'll be doing a modern AU! of Bertholdt right? Now I got another one lined up for Jean too! I also recently thought up another one for Eren but that's the part I'm stuck with.

So help me out a bit and please Vote for which story you want to see/read
-A spinoff of this series with the story taking place in the same setting but with Eren as the main character and with a different reader character

-Eren as a coffee shop worker/ barista/ some other occupation totally unrelated to this story.

So please comment below or send me a note! :iconba-kyunplz:
